...from Andrew Walden at The American Thinker, on the supporters that the Ron Paul campaign won't acknowledge--or apparently, repudiate. Turns out that the GOP/Libertarian Congressman-turned-presidential-hopeful has picked up quite a following among neo-Nazis and anti-Semites.
More disturbingly, it appears that the candidate has accepted donations from at least one Neo-Nazi group and its leader--in fact, the organization has a donation link to the Paul campaign, which (at last report) has not been blocked. Additionally, there is no indication that Mr. Paul has returned any money raised from these sources.
As Mr. Walden notes, this is more than a case of a solitary link from a hate-group website, or a single donation by a well-known white supremacist. A large segment of the kook fringe, including avowed racists and anti-Semites, are coming out of the woodwork to back Mr. Paul. And while other politicians would repudiate their support--and their venomous message--the Paul campaign remains strangely silent.
Hat tip: Powerline.
He has been called on it during at least one interview.
ReplyDeleteHe was pretty clear that he doesn't agree with them and won't change his policies for them. In short, their money is still good, but they aren't going to sway him no matter how much they donate.
I think it was this one, but I don't have a hour to find it right now:

I guess I never paid enough attention to Ron Paul to know this was a secret.
ReplyDeleteI get some crazy links sometimes from Ron Paul supporter forums, the typical Jew hate, black helicopter stuff you see from that element of the fringe.
After all, according to them it's a 'revolution' ya know...
Brian--I was unaware that at least one New Hampshire reporter had questioned Mr. Paul about some of his racist/nutball supporters. Good for the Nashua Telegraph--too bad the national media have ignored the story.
ReplyDeleteAnd, with Congressman Paul supposedly raking in the contribution dough, it makes you wonder why he won't return their money. Sorry, but I don't see how any presidential candidate can consider money from racists and anti-Semites to be "good" and refuse to block a donation link from one of their sites.

ReplyDeleteThere's a line from a movie that sums up my attitude about these kinds of things:
"I'm particular about who I drink with." -- Nick Nolte, Extreme Prejudice.
Well, I'm also going to be particular about who I take money from. Ron Paul may say he's not for sale, but as a politician, he's definitely for rent.
