Ver...Very moving essay about Walter, Ken and Mike. Very heartfelt and appreciated.<br /><br />My dad was on Peleliu, and described the extreme noise and violence of the place. He was lucky to have survived, and he even made it through Okinawa.<br /><br />Dad and his uncle Buzz (who was a few years older than dad) worried about each other from opposite sides of the earth. Buzz was in North Africa and Italy, flying P-38s. In April 1944 he took off from Bari, Italy to Vienna on a mission, had a mechanical about 20 minutes out, and disappeared. Nothing was ever found of him or his plane. I think of him every Memorial Day, and thousands of others who suffered similar fates.
