I don't know if you take to monitoring the far-left "nutroots" websites - I didn't really want to waste my time with the whole "know your enemy" thing, until, that is, I actually went on and saw some of the garbage that is out there.

For instance, a posting from a Daily Kos "diarist" notes how KSM's closing statement "contains eloquent statements about the nature of war and America's predisposition to define" and contains this gem of a line:

"The targeting of civilians is never a justifiable way to make a statement. But perhaps KSM knows that, and his point during this speech is that the current 'war on terror' is also an illegitimate statment."

Unbelievable.Angevin13https://www.blogger.com/profile/00645571669987524664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10820485.post-1173984640020422932007-03-15T15:50:00.000-04:002007-03-15T15:50:00.000-04:00Excellent points--and I think this transcript unde...Excellent points--and I think this transcript underscores the wisdom of trying terrorists in military tribunals, rather than the federal court system.

If you though the Moussaoui trial was a circus (and it was), imagine the radical law types from NYU and Columbia defending the likes of KSM in a federal courtroom. Days of testimony from "experts" who would affirm that Mohammed and his cronies are the equivalent of our founding fathers. Lots of legal preening and grandstanding--and of course--that's just from the attorneys. KSM would go Moussaoui one better, and we'd wind up with terrorist show trials that last 3-4 years.

Mohammed and his fellow detainees are nothing more than killers who deserve no more of a public forum than the transcript of their military tribunal.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12712369389411084085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10820485.post-1173983197466190112007-03-15T15:26:00.000-04:002007-03-15T15:26:00.000-04:00I think you're right to point out that the scale o...I think you're right to point out that the scale of his "confessions" bears some indication of a man who's been in captivity a while and may believe this to get him better treatment or save his life. Plus, KSM does have an overblown view of himself. That said, I agree that there's no doubt that he certainly planned or carried out some of the most horrific of terrorist attacks.

Now, with this released confession, it's probably only the ACLU that doesn't understand that KSM is an enemy combatant. Most people already understood that.

What's most disgusting to me, however, is how he compares himself to George Washington; according to the NYT: "His actions, he said, were like those of other revolutionaries. Had the British arrested George Washington during the Revolutionary War, Mr. Mohammed said, 'for sure they would consider him enemy combatant.' Besides the very obvious differences between the two, Washington was the uniformed commander of a regular, recognized army. What's also distressing to me, is that the NYT times doesn't point this out at all. Not that they need to stand up for Washington, and perhaps they think their audience is enlightened enough to know that, but I still think it is a point worth making that the Father of Our Country is nothing like the disgusting KSM. It's like that asinine editorial in the Boston Globe 2 days ago that compared the Iraqi insurgency to the American Revolution.

Last evening I wondered how long it would take before the screams of "torture" were heard and, as comes as no surprise, the NYT already notes that KSM contends the CIA "mistreated" him. Torture claims soon to follow.

I apologize if this seems like rambling, stuff like this just angers me so much...Angevin13https://www.blogger.com/profile/00645571669987524664noreply@blogger.com
