We Couldn't Make This Stuff Up

Senator Ted (I'll have another Chivas) Kennedy is writing a children's book, along with his Portuguese Water Dog, Splash.

Let that one sink in for a moment. What are the odds that ol' Senator Chappaquiddick would purchase a dog with a particular affinity for the water, let alone name it "Splash?" Describing it ironic might be the understatement of the millenium.

Here's the AKC page on the breed. You'll note that the Portuguese Water Dog is a "swimmer and diver" of exceptional ability. Makes you wonder how many times the dog has had to fish his master out of the drink. It's also sad that Splash (or one of his ancestors) wasn't along for Teddy's ride across that bridge back in 1969. Who knows? Mary Jo Kopechne might be alive today, if Senator Kennedy had taken an earlier interest in the breed.

No word on when the collaboration between Splash and Senator Kennedy will be published. But I've got some suggested chapter titles for the dog's section of the book:

Playing Fetch with an Empty Scotch Bottle
Is that a Beached Whale--or Just My Master, Asleep on the Sand?
Walking on the Beach With Master Teddy--What Happened to His Pants?

If you have other chapter suggestions for the Teddy-Splash opus, send them to: icspook86@hotmail.com
