One of the biggest gifts came when bit people were cleared to sue the ass off the dog owners, even if the dogs jumped the fence when the owner wasn't looking. The owners were also jailed, and the dogs exterminated. The whole thing really works well!

The animal cruelty stuff isn't as much of a problem as mauled children, for example, so I don't know who would get excited about it. I don't mind cockfights - or even dog fights - but I don't like these loose idiot pit dogs on the street. It's like having to share the street with bears or cougars. Shoot the whole lot, I say!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10820485.post-85692682653821725862007-07-08T10:05:00.000-04:002007-07-08T10:05:00.000-04:00I think you miss my point; the time and money devo...I think you miss my point; the time and money devoted to the dog registry might be better used to investigate--and prosecute--individuals who engage in animal cruelty on a massive scale.

Additionally, as I noted in a previous post, the Virginia system seems doomed to fail, since it relies on "local authorities" to identify dangerous dogs and irresponsible owners. The actions of Surry County officials suggest that they had no interest in probing--let alone, prosecuting--the community's most famous resident, despite a long history of suspicious activity at that property.

Finally, the situation with dangerous dogs is roughly akin to what we face with illegal immigration, i.e., existing laws can deal with the problem, provided that our elected officials choose to enforce them.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12712369389411084085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10820485.post-9604977163152765102007-07-08T02:22:00.000-04:002007-07-08T02:22:00.000-04:00Dangerous dog registries are not about dog-fights....Dangerous dog registries are not about dog-fights. They're meant to clean up dog agro in the neighborhood, and wherever they're implemented, they're hugely successful. I concede that Rottweiler and Staffordshire dog-lovers don't like them, though. But the rest of us think that they're just great!

BTW, Spook, your Blogger login routine really sucks - are you able to fix it?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
