After watching a clearly evil man destroy the lives of so many people, we watched, stunned, as he bashed in the skull of a young preacher with a bowling pin. We heard the crunch of breaking skull bones, again and again. The watched the blood seeping out, onto the floor.

Is this seen as entertainment by anyone in our society? I went it because I was fooled by the PR reviews.

Afterward, I recalled the whining of the music studios who are trying to figure out why they're losing money. Has any one figured out that the reason is not downloading, it's really crappy music?

Now we've got really, REALLY crappy movies. "There Will Be Blood" is spectacular and noisy, but it's a really crappy, disgusting movie.

----------

PS: this blog is very difficult to use - can you fix it? It's the worst Blogger implementation I've ever seen.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10820485.post-18311378785209220922008-02-26T20:37:00.000-05:002008-02-26T20:37:00.000-05:00Spook86:I watched the Oscars even though I revile ...Spook86:

I watched the Oscars even though I revile everything Hollywood stands for and seldom frequent commercial cinema. I was totally unamused by Jon Stewart, remembering at the end of the evening that I had briefly smiled only once or twice the entire evening.

But I was glad the Academy paid the lip service it did to American troops in Iraq. Yes, their membership by an overwhelming majority is critical of the war and willingly lies about our effort in Iraq, Yet someone on their staff felt they had to make a nod to the troops -- probably because they continue to hope the folks in flyover country will buy movie tickets.

Then the award for documentary films followed the bit with the troops and I was insulted, outraged, and not surprised. Hollywood up to its old tricks, I thought, and employing the Clinton tactic of defusing the opposition before the fact by letting a little contrary view creep out. Clever politics.

Yet they had bent to something -- public sentiment, Grandpa Herb's admonition to respect the military, or fear of completely losing their audience in the red states. They had acknowledge that their knee-jerk position of the military (and most things you and I give respect to) is not really the mainstream position.

So I think I have to disagree with you just a little. I think on balance that they admitted what passes for popular opinion on Hollywood Blvd is NOT America's consensus. I thought they said "ours is not the only opinion." I thought they let a little light shine on their cabalistic ritual.

FFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06981706601001285694noreply@blogger.com
