THe UHF station in Detroit that CBS latched on to had a signal that was so bad it wasn't just the rabbit ear folks who had problems, even the cable companies couldn't get a decent signal.

But that's not the reason Katie didn't make it. It all boils down to the legacy of Dan Rather. His liberal bias was so pervasive, no conservative would consider listening to him. Katie didn't invent third place ratings, Rather basked in them. CBS News had simply driven half their potential audience away.

I'll give Katie credit, she knew she had a problem with conservatives. She dreamed up the idea of putting some balance in the show. Even booked Rush Limabaugh. I watched her show that evening. It was a farce. The Limbaugh portion was OK, but the first 3 segments (15 minutes)were all anti-Bush, anti-war or anti-Republican.

The first was a story of a diner owner in Jacksonville NC, home of Camp LeJeune and 40k Marines. Well, the diner owner had suddenly turned anti-war and she just droned on. The catch line was something like "If you've lost Jacksonville NC, you've lost the war." The other 2 segments were equally biased. It's as if the producers had said to themselves "How dare Limbaugh intrude on our air."

Anyway the balance concept died a quick death.

But it was Moonves and Redstone who made the biggest mistake. They are entertainment folks who simply don't understand news. They picked Couric because they figured she would appeal to her former morning female audience, and pull them over to the evening news.

That, of course didn't work. The ladies like soft news, chat and feel good interviews. That's not the fare of evening news.

Katie should hook up with Oprah's new network. Reportedly she just hired Rosie ODonnel (yuck!), who won't last long.Corky Boydhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16363812378536729410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10820485.post-13200994497684328442011-04-05T11:28:16.428-04:002011-04-05T11:28:16.428-04:00One thing they might try doing is to stop shilling...One thing they might try doing is to stop shilling for the "Progressives" who populate the Democrat party. A fair and balanced approach just might work.TOFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14234091783167165660noreply@blogger.com
