Recall the infamous Sheila McVicar piece on ABC in 1999 where she hinted that Saddam might just pass some of his WMDs to bin Laden. No need to explain anymore--Bush lied.A.C. Bush's action, while only half-way, still leaves open the possibility that appellate action will clear Mr. Libby completely, thus rendering a full pardon unnecessary. In that event, Pres. It sees to me, and again, forgive me if I'm wrong, that were I in Libby's position I'd appreciate that the President can undo what a federal judge had determined appropriate: i.e., Libby should serve time pending his appeal.

I wish Mr. Libby luck on his appeal process.OregonGuyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08096619871119860938noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10820485.post-30958380911071918062007-07-03T13:11:00.000-04:002007-07-03T13:11:00.000-04:00Bush could still respect the jury's decision and y...Bush could still respect the jury's decision and yet pardon the penalty, which was clearly excessive for Libby's typical senior's moment of forgetfulness.

As a senior citizen, I sympathise with Libby because our memory systems are increasingly leaky as we get older. And Bush was truly a chicken-shit leader over this issue. He should have been defending his people a little more vigorously.

PS: Spook, are you able to fix up this awful Blogger system? Being a serial fabulist seems to have been a career boost for Joe (no relation) Wilson. From obscure diplomat to media darling. Not to mention he'll always be on the Republican's rolls because he took one for the team.gr8scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07301711756689943500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10820485.post-64952364979697355522007-07-03T11:08:00.000-04:002007-07-03T11:08:00.000-04:00It solves a short term practical problem for Libby...It solves a short term practical problem for Libby, which is staying out of the hoosegow. Still, I think Bush erred in not granting the pardon, especially since the staff was ordered upon pain of dismissal to give up their fifth amendment rights and talk to investigators. Given the language about "respecting the jury's verdict," etc., etc., I don't see how he could now issue a pardon. It would seem the matter is now closed as far as the president is concerned.Paul Wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15876576362745819207noreply@blogger.com
