A good example would be the comment made to the mother of Pat Tillman when they turned over his remains, "he is just worm dirt". When asked if he said it, and it was recorded, the military officer said something to the effect of. " if he was of the right faith, he would not be worm dirt". That kind of hatred spewed out of the mouths of extremists cannot be tolerated.Fellowhumanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921946343617877326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10820485.post-57799459245311032202007-08-21T11:44:00.000-04:002007-08-21T11:44:00.000-04:00Great piece, however you left out some facts about...Great piece, however you left out some facts about Jack Catton. He was found guilty on several counts regrading the video made in the pentagon by the Christian Embassy. I watched the Video and found its use of Pentagon Symbols, people in uniform to be very, theocratic. The purpose of the video was to raise money but also to show off its power in the Military. It is not just a few e-mails that got this man in hot water.Fellowhumanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921946343617877326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10820485.post-1147332643306034072006-05-11T03:30:00.000-04:002006-05-11T03:30:00.000-04:00PS I also appreciate your other posts and generall...PS I also appreciate your other posts and generally agree with you on foreign policy, I'm not flying in from the lefty blogophere to drop a load. But I guess I am one of those "separation of church and state" crowd.Judithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03919681605602568664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10820485.post-1147332496519411052006-05-11T03:28:00.000-04:002006-05-11T03:28:00.000-04:00"the Air Force (and the academy) should never tole..."the Air Force (and the academy) should never tolerate religious bigotry or discrimination. And there are effective ways of dealing with anti-Semitic slurs and proselytizing --including the cadet honor code and the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). But those techniques won't satisfy critics like Mr. Weinstein,"

Was the discrimination and slurs indeed handled by those codes? Perhaps Mr Weinstein wasn't satisfied because they weren't.

"at groups like Americans United for Separation of Church and State."

Which should be anyone who takes our constitution seriously.

"Ironically, this campaign to ensure religious freedom at the academy has actually produced a backlash against evangelicals--on a campus where 90% of the cadets identify themselves as Christians."

If evangelicals are openly proselytizing other cadets, that could produce a backlash itself. You're scapegoating the whistleblower. The percentage of Christian cadets isn't relevant. Either the Air Force supports the constitution or it doesn't.

I agree with you about sensitivity training.Judithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03919681605602568664noreply@blogger.com
